Despite a bounce that occured last Sunday, Bitcoin suddenly dropped today to $7,500. Over the last seven days, its price is down by 9%, at €6,830 ($7,550) on October 23. Attention is turning to the futures contracts of the CME Group, a product widely used by institutional investors. Their monthly closing takes place this Friday. For months, this closing has been preceded by a price drops. What could signal a bullish reversal now?

  • According to CoinMarketCap, capitalisation is down to $212 billion from $217 billion last week.
  • The market dominance of Bitcoin is stable at 66.2%.
  • Volumes remain low
  • The prices of Bitcoin SV and Chainlink Altcoins are more resilient with increases of 11% and 5% respectively
  • The 18 millionth Bitcoin was mined this week.

We invite you to discover our complete analysis in video (In french and dated from Ocotber 22):

Bitcoin (BTC)

Bitcoin chart

Coinhouse recommendation :
Wait

  • Our recommendation this week is still to wait. The price is dropping and is now in the support zone we identified between €6,550 and €6,800 ($7,200 and $7,500). but we advise to wait for more price reaction.
  • The break of the intermediate support of €7,100 ($7,700) was our sell signal for those who wanted to protect their exposure.
  • Bitcoin futures contracts offered by the CME Group are the favorite entry for institutionals to buy Bitcoin. The monthly close of these contracts takes place on Friday October 25. For months, this closing was preceded by a strong drop in the Bitcoin price. Today’s movement seems to confirm this trend.
  • We are still far from a bullish reversal. The price must at least go back to the area between €8,200 and €8,400 ($9,100 and $9,400) to install a new bullish sentiment.

Ethereum (ETH)

Ethereum chart

Coinhouse recommendation:
Buy

  • Big drop for Ethereum this week with -8.47%, at €144 ($160) on October 23.
  • Our recommendation remains to buy as long as we stay around the support from €145 to €160 ($160 to $180).
  • But with today’s drop, this support could be in jeopardy. A daily close with volumes below €145 ($160) will be a sell signal.

Ripple (XRP)

XRP chart

Coinhouse recommendation:
Wait

  • Ripple (XRP) is more resilient and loses only 2.94% over the week, at 0.245€ (0.274$).
  • However, the price doesn’t hold the support of €0.25 ($0.28), which had supported the price during the first half of 2019. As long as the chart does not stabilise permanently above this level, we will not buy XRP.
  • A bullish continuation and then a break above $0.32 will be a signal of a medium-term bullish reversal and may be a new buy signal.

  • 18 million bitcoins
This week, the Bitcoin network created its 18 millionth unit.
There are only 3 million bitcoins left to create on the market, and they will be created more and more slowly.
By 2030, we will have reached 20 million.
The last bitcoin fragment should be created in 2140.
  • Grayscale investment fund announces exceptional results
250 million dollars were invested in Bitcoin Grayscale derivatives during the third quarter of 2019.
This is three times the amount invested in the second quarter.
Grayscale is often perceived as mainly used by institutional investors.
These figures tend to suggest that institutional investors are optimistic in this market.
  • Troubles continue for Telegram
After the US SEC’s decision to re-qualify its fundraising, the project seems to be paralyzed.
Faced with the October 30 deadline, Telegram decided to delay.
The company will propose to subscribers to extend the date to April 30, 2020.
This project is experiencing many delays and problems, which does not bode well for its future.
  • HTC launches a blockchain compatible mobile phone
The Exodus 1s model will cost 219€.
It will carry a portfolio of cryptoactives called Zion, which is supposed to be very secure.
It will be able to operate as a node of the Bitcoin network, provided that it has an SD card of at least 400 GB and is permanently connected to the network.
  • World leader Bitmain opens a mining operation in Texas
This physical location will be the largest bitcoin mine in the world.
A 300 MW electrical capacity will eventually be deployed, with more than 400 jobs.
Bitmain seems to want to decentralize its operations, to depend less on the Chinese market.
  • The Synthetix project is a hot topic
Synthetix is a platform for creating and exchanging so-called synthetic financial products.
They allow an investor to benefit from capital gains on an asset without owning it.
The project is fully decentralized and operates via smart contracts.
The way it works is relatively complex, both financially and technologically.
Nevertheless, it attracts investors. It is now the third DeFi project in terms of value locked in, with 75 million USD.
  • Libra could become a multi-currency system
Libra’s leaders have suggested that the ‘basket of currencies’ originally planned is not yet in place.
Instead, we could have Libra-dollars, Libra-euros, etc.
The SEC considers the Libra token as an investment vehicle that falls under its regulation.
This type of development could greatly reduce the interest of the Libra project.
  • The Lightning Network is becoming more accessible.
The user experience on the Lightning Network has just reached a new level thanks to ACINQ.
Phoenix, its new wallet, allows you to receive funds, send funds on the main network or the lightning network, as well as secure your portfolio in less than three minutes.
