The Sandbox is a metaverse application originally designed for smartphones.
The platform makes the most of three areas: metavers, gaming and NFT.
Let’s see how.
The Sandbox is a metaverse in the sense that the platform makes a virtual world available to its players.
The Sandbox is a platform that allows users to buy, sell or trade plots and create experiences.
The metaverse is a field that exploded in 2021 and 2022 with Facebook’s corporate name change and bull run crypto.
More than a metaverse, The Sandbox is also positioning itself in the gaming sector with a blockchain twist.
Community gaming is currently dominated by “traditional” games such as Minecraft or Roblox.
Thanks to blockchain, The Sandbox differentiates itself from these games by giving total control to its players.
Players are creators and remain the sole owners of their content.
What’s more, the game offers a real economy with its SAND token.
Players can earn rewards.
The Sandbox is therefore also a play-to-earn or P2P application.
The SAND platform therefore has the advantage of touching on two high-potential areas in crypto.
Metavers represent a capitalization of 39 billion euros, while P2P currently stands at 16 billion euros.
Finally, The Sandbox takes advantage of NFT technology.
NFT made a name for itself before the metaverse during the last crypto bull run.
At its peak in 2021, the NFT market capitalization represented over $40 billion!
While the field has since suffered the aftershocks of the bear market, NFTs remain a high-potential field with multiple applications.
In the case of The Sandbox, parcels and individual objects are NFTs, enabling them to be tokenized.
The integration of NFTs in The Sandbox enables :
In principle, The Sandbox is very similar to the Decentraland platform and its MANA token.
But The Sandbox has a higher capitalization, making it the first pure metaverse crypto on the market today.
At the time of writing, the price of the SAND token is €0.6.
The Sandbox’s market capitalization is €1.4 billion.
The two people behind The Sandbox project are French: Arthur Madrid and Sebastien Borget.
Arthur Madrid is the current CEO of The Sandbox and Pixowl, which has been owned by Animoca since 2018.
Prior to The Sandbox, Arthur Madrid founded two software companies (Wixi Inc. and 1-Click Media) and acted as advisor to a number of gaming, social networking and software start-ups.
Sebastien Borget is COO of The Sandbox and Pixowl.
He is passionate about blockchain technology and gaming.
He plays an active role in the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFT) in gaming.
In 2020, he was president of the Blockchain Game Alliance.
In addition to Arthur Madrid and Sebastien Borget, the following people hold roles in The Sandbox team:
The team is made up of around forty people, grouped together in various offices in France, Korea, Japan and Argentina.
Around this team, The Sandbox also relies on advisors:
Major partners: Over the years, The Sandbox has managed to attract a number of big names to the game, giving the project a major boost.
Below are just a few of the major partnerships The Sandbox has forged:
Alongside these commercial partnerships, The Sandbox relies on Wedbush Securities as its exclusive placement agent and financial advisor.
On the legal side, the metaverse works with Rubicon Law.
The Sandbox metaverse is made up of 166,464 parcels called LANDs.
Technically speaking, a LAND is an NFT, a token that follows the ERC-721 standard.
It can be purchased on a marketplace, such as The Sandbox or OpenSea.
The dimensions of each parcel are 96*96*128.1 meters.
Several adjacent parcels can be combined to create “ESTATE” as follows:
ESTATEs can be owned by several players at once, creating a DISTRICT.
By purchasing a plot in the metaverse, a player can develop his land by adding experiences.
For example, he can implant an avatar capable of walking, jumping, running and fighting.
The avatar can be customized in terms of helmet, arms, torso, legs and so on.
To customize your avatar, you need to buy ASSET tokens.
ASSETs are tokens built according to the ERC-1155 standard.
Another way to earn money is to rent out the SAND plot to people who will set up games.
SAND is the platform’s native token.
It is an ERC-20 token, and runs on the Ethereum blockchain.
The SAND token is mainly used for :
Staking : filing a claim for passive income.
At present, there are 75.06% of tokens in circulation, i.e. 2,251,731,929 SAND.

The Sandbox applies blockchain and NFT technology to metaversers and gaming.
With The Sandbox, users are not just gamers, but also content creators.
By purchasing one or more plots, players can create playful, interactive experiences in the metaverse.
Thanks to the use of blockchain and NFT, The Sandboxgoes further than centralized games such as Minecraft.
On SAND, for example, players on the metaverse own their creations.
The title of ownership is registered directly on the blockchain, so it’s immutable and not simply linked to the game.
What’s more, players on SAND benefit from a fully secure infrastructure thanks to the features of the blockchain.
Revenues from the development of their plot or the sale of their tokens go entirely to the owners.
For the time being, gaming is still reluctant to join the decentralized applications of blockchain.
However, The Sandbox has everything it takes to attract a share of traditional gamers, with a strong team of developers, extensive partnerships and a complete ecosystem.
The SAND metaverse boasts an impressive list of major players in a wide variety of fields (banking, celebrities, fashion, catering, retail, automotive, etc.).
Unsurprisingly, The Sandbox is currently the most important metaverse in crypto, far ahead of its biggest competitor, Decentraland (MANA).
Despite its qualities, The Sandbox’s success will depend on the return to form of the metaverse, a sector that suffered greatly during the bear market.
Before investing in The Sandbox, we recommend that you do your homework.
Cryptocurrency is an emerging field with highly volatile prices.
Investing in crypto (as in any financial product) involves risks of capital loss that you need to be aware of.
